Welcome

Welcome to Wandsworth Twins Club - because it's double the trouble, but twice as fun!

Established in 1980, WTC is a not-for-profit, voluntary organisation, run by twin parents for twin families.

We aim to foster a support network for South West London's twin families, based in and around Wandsworth, Tooting, Balham, Earlsfield, Battersea, Southfields, Wimbledon, Stockwell, Clapham, Brixton and Streatham.

Creating opportunities for our members to find like-minded twin parents, membership benefits include:

* twin-friendly Events, including a weekly playgroup, mothers' nights out, mum-to-be meets, parents' coffee mornings and Christmas and summer parties.
* information on need-to-know news, events and activities across the area.
* access to our password-protected website, which includes news and events, Message Boards, with forums ranging from feeding discussions to items for sale; a Photo Gallery; and access to our Articles archive from back issues of our newsletter.
* a quarterly newsletter, a round-up of our online conversations, containing an overview of our forthcoming activities, twins' club and local news, first person stories from our members and relevant facts and figures.

For full access to the website you need to be a member. See the WTC Membership page for information about joining us.

Events update - summer playgroup and picnics
Monday 18th July, 2011

Summer is here (apparently, despite last weekend's weather), and that means summer playgroup and picnics!

Tomorrow (Tuesday 19th July) is the last playgroup at Lyford Road until September - but don't go away! Following last summer's successful playgroup at Triangle One O'Clock Club, we will be there again all summer. Find us there every Monday, 10am-midday, until August 22 - price £3 members/|£4 non-members - login for more details.

We also arrange a picnic every Friday, 3-5pm, at various parks across Wandsworth, which is free to attend (but weather permitting). Login to see the details of the next few picnics.

Hope to see you there!

WTC website and newsletter contributors wanted!
Now numbering nearly 200 twin families, the Wandsworth Twins Club website and newsletter are becoming a more and more important line of communication between members. We need you to help make them happen - the WTC is very much your support network, and is run by twin parents for twin families!

Coordinated by committee members, both website and newsletter have grown exponentially in the last few years, and we need more contributors, including writers, sub-editors, and editors. We'd also love some community advocates to help manage our forums - the perfect place to have online communications with local twin families.

We also are keen to find some people with technical/CMS experience to help with more technical aspects of the website, as well as some who might like to help us negotiate member benefits and website/newsletter sponsors.

Perhaps you're not sure about writing, but have a story to tell, or tips to share? Those of us who are happy to write up content would love to hear from you!...

Why does WTC have coffee mornings?
'Coffee mornings' sounds quite formal but really it is just the opposite - getting local twin mums together for a chat. The WTC coffee mornings (or afternoons) are a chance for people expecting twins and for parents of twins to meet up at the homes of other twin families, because cafe-based get togethers can present a unique set of challenges for twin mums, given we may have wider buggies (or more) in tow, not to mention the juggling act of breastfeeding twins out and about or keeping two energetic toddlers safe can be slightly tricky! WTC coffee mornings allow twin mums and mums-to-be a chance to meet up and swap stories and tips about how to care for, cope with and enjoy twins, in a relaxed home environment.

Mmm cake. When and where, please?

We try and have coffee mornings in all areas that the WTC covers, and attendees are generally parents or parents to be who live locally to the host. If there is not one in your area why not volunteer to host one? Coffee mornings are held every few weeks. Forthcoming dates can be found on the website, the magazine or in our weekly email updates . Please do contact the host in advance to check that the time and or date of the coffee morning has not changed and to let the host know that you are coming.

If you would like to discuss hosting a coffee morning please contact:

Twins club playgroup
Don't forget to come to the WTC Tuesday Playgroup!

Tuesdays 3-5pm; £3 per family/per week
Map here.
Romany Scout Hut, 22a Lyford Road, London, SW18 3LG

Full listings of the next playgroup sessions are on our Events page. We hope to see you there!

It really is a fantastic venue. It has a new improved playground area outside. There are cars, bikes and scooters to play on, a fantastic climbing frame and slide and a water table for water play so there’s lots of fun to be had. There’s also a shady area on the grass where we lay down mats and toys for the babies so we cater for all ages.

Update from Snong & Rayek
Snong and Rayek are Cambodian twins sponsored by WTC. Their parents, Pary and Yimry, are both HIV+ and in the later stages of AIDS. Thankfully both boys are HIV negative. Our aim is to raise £350 a year to sponsor the family.

The latest report from Juana, our sponsored family’s Support Worker, tells us that the twins are at a local Christian primary school near their home. Unfortunately, Rayek has failed his first year but Snong has passed and is going in to the 2nd grade.

Despite the daily challenges faced by the family as a result of ill health and poverty they are happy and have a good positive attitude. The family have very little money so every penny we raise helps makes a difference to their lives. The money we raise goes directly to the family and is put towards food, clothing, school uniform and medicines.

Buddying
We have new members joining all the time and need volunteer buddies to pair them up with. Being a buddy to a new member need not be a big commitment, a few phone calls or emails, meeting up once or twice and being available to give a bit of advice and support.

Just remember how difficult those first few months with twins are and how much easier it is if there's someone around who knows what you are going through.

If you are interested in being buddy please contact Katie Dockray.
